The Maze: Best Buy is preparing to put nearly 10,000 electronics products inside TikTok Shop in the US from late October. A video could make someone want a camera, send them to an in-app product page and complete the sale before they visit BestBuy.com. Best Buy will still fulfill the order and accept eligible returns in stores or by mail. The retailer gets a new place to catch demand; TikTok gets a familiar electronics name and a larger assortment. The strategic question is who owns the moment when a shopper decides what to buy.

  • The shop is planned, not live. Best Buy announced a late-October debut, with headphones, cameras, small appliances, laptops and accessories among the planned categories. Oura, Bose, Dyson and Microsoft are named as example brands. Nearly 10,000 is the intended assortment, not a count of products currently selling. That distinction matters: the move is a commitment to test a new sales channel before the holiday season, with actual demand and conversion still to be measured.

  • The video becomes a storefront. Shoppers will be able to encounter Best Buy products in creator videos, the Best Buy shop page, TikTok's Shop tab and in-app product pages. TikTok's US seller guidance explains the general linking mechanism: a video can point to one product, a category, a collection or a whole shop. In this case, the retailer adds its assortment and service operations to a discovery path TikTok already controls. The planned experience lets a shopper move from seeing an item to buying it without opening the retailer's site. TikTok owns that front door; Best Buy remains responsible for what happens after checkout.

  • Creators are part of the distribution, not just the ad. Best Buy started its own creator storefront program in 2025, giving influencers a way to curate technology and earn commissions on referred sales. Its TikTok plan extends that approach into an in-app marketplace. Best Buy Ads partners can use creator content, affiliate links and paid promotion, with campaigns tied to Best Buy's customer data and measurement. The announcement promises these capabilities, but it does not provide fees, conversion results or a return on that spending. A creator can make a product easier to discover; whether the resulting sale is incremental and profitable remains an open question.

  • Big-box credibility cuts both ways. TikTok Shop has leaned on bargains and impulse discovery, but bringing in an established electronics retailer could make shoppers more comfortable buying higher-consideration products there. Retail Brew's marketplace analysis frames Best Buy as part of a push toward larger brands and a broader retail identity. Best Buy gains access to people who were watching rather than searching. It also competes for attention inside an interface and recommendation system it does not own. The planned store and return network can build trust, but it does not give Best Buy control over TikTok's feed.

Why it matters: This is a test of whether a trusted retailer can turn entertainment-led discovery into a durable sales channel without surrendering too much customer access or margin. Best Buy supplies products, fulfillment and eligible returns; TikTok supplies the attention, shopping interface and creator ecosystem. Watch the late-October launch, which products and creators receive distribution, and whether Best Buy discloses incremental sales or economics. Until then, the deal changes the possible path to purchase, not the measured balance of power.
