The Maze: Amazon India has launched Creator Connections to match eligible creators with brand campaigns and reward qualified clicks and purchases. The rollout begins with its most engaged creators, with 50,000 advertisers expected at launch. Amazon's wider Influencer Program already has more than 165,000 creators; they are not all getting immediate access. The commercial shift is a tighter link between recommendations outside Amazon and purchases inside it, with the marketplace able to see the sales those recommendations produce.
Campaign matching becomes part of the shopping machine. Creators receive recommendations based on their profile, audience and content, or browse for suitable campaigns themselves. They participate through affiliate links: tracked links connecting a recommendation to shopping activity. The earnings mechanism considers qualified clicks and downstream conversions, meaning purchases after a click. Amazon has not disclosed a rate table or the exact formula. Brands gain another route to potential buyers, while creators can find commercial opportunities without negotiating every introduction separately.
Smaller audiences can still make commercial sense. A regional creator or specialist with an engaged following may persuade more people to buy than a larger account with a loose audience fit. That is the programme's proposition, not a demonstrated earnings result. Amazon says nearly 70% of its creator-led purchases come from non-metro cities, and creator discovery has helped sell more than 60 million products on Amazon.in this year. Those figures describe the existing ecosystem. They cannot establish the performance of a programme that is only starting to expand.
Amazon adds a new layer to an existing referral business. The Influencer Program already lets creators curate a storefront and earn from qualifying purchases. Creator University and Creator Connect added training and events in 2024. The new campaign-matching layer moves brand budgets closer to those creators. Amazon Ads had previewed plans to link Sponsored Product campaigns with influencers earlier this year. Agencies still have roles in recruitment, training and account management, even as routine matching becomes more direct.
The festive season is the first commercial test. Amazon says creator earnings have historically risen fivefold around Diwali versus ordinary periods, but gives no forecast for extra earnings from Creator Connections. The rollout will assess whether creators earn enough and brands get the advertising return they expect. Brands can reach audiences beyond Amazon; the eventual purchase stays on Amazon. That gives the platform visibility into the outcome, but a tracked sale alone cannot prove the campaign created an extra sale. Brands still need to test what would have happened without that spending.
Why it matters: Amazon is offering brands a more direct way to turn creator recommendations into measurable shopping activity. Creators may gain access to budgets, and specialists may compete on buying intent rather than audience size. Amazon gains influence over matching and measurement as well as the checkout. For merchants, the useful test is profit after campaign costs and genuinely additional demand. For creators, it is the actual payout for their work. Neither result is settled by the size of the launch network.
