LET’S ENTER THE MAZE!

1️⃣ News

Prime Delivery Leaves Amazon’s Checkout

The Maze: U.S. merchants using Amazon fulfillment can now offer Prime delivery on their own sites while keeping checkout and returns. Amazon still ships the order.

  • Eligible sellers can add Prime delivery through the Shopify MCF app; membership is checked after the shopper pays.

  • Amazon's service terms keep it in charge of eligibility, branding rules and delivery, even though the merchant controls the storefront.

  • A separate program gives eligible FBA sellers 15–25% combined fulfillment-fee savings for six months; standard MCF fees still apply.

Why it matters: Merchants may gain Prime's delivery trust without giving up checkout, but they must test whether the sales benefit still pays after discounts end.

Best Buy Plans a TikTok Shelf

The Maze: Best Buy plans a late-October US TikTok Shop launch with nearly 10,000 products, putting electronics discovery and checkout inside the video app.

  • Headphones, cameras and laptops are among the planned categories; Best Buy will fulfill orders and take eligible returns in stores or by mail.

  • Creator videos can link directly to products, so a shopper can move from seeing an item to buying it without leaving TikTok.

  • Best Buy brings its assortment and service network while TikTok controls the feed and in-app purchase path; no sales or margin results are available yet.

Why it matters: Best Buy gains a new door to shoppers, but TikTok owns discovery. The test is whether creator-led electronics sales add profitable demand after promotion and fulfillment costs.

3️⃣ News

Stitch Fix’s Customer Math Tightens

The Maze: Stitch Fix grew fiscal 2026 sales 6.4% and cut its loss, but ended the year with 2.277 million active clients, down 1.4%. Fewer shoppers are spending more.

  • Revenue per active client rose 7.8% to $592, while the annual net loss narrowed to $12.6 million.

  • Its stylist-selected boxes and Freestyle direct-buy shop give existing clients more ways to purchase, but client numbers still slipped.

  • Fiscal 2027 sales guidance runs from a 2.8% decline to 0.9% growth, with more ad and technology spending planned to support future demand.

Why it matters: Bigger spend per customer can lift sales for a while. Stitch Fix now has to rebuild its US client base without paying so much for acquisition that margins slip again.

4️⃣ Insight

Vinted Buys a Learning Option

The Maze: Vinted's Tilt investment is not a live-shopping launch. It is a low-risk way to learn how creator-led resale works before rivals own the habit.

  • Whatnot is the closest threat: live-native operations are moving from collectibles into fashion and electronics.

  • TikTok Shop owns discovery, while eBay Live and Fanatics Live bring auction trust and specialist communities.

  • The UK, Germany, France and the U.S. should test learning, growth, defense and proof—not one global feature rollout.

Why it matters: Vinted already has marketplace scale. Tilt lets it test whether live selling activates supply and repeat demand before adding cost everywhere.

5️⃣ Insight

Temu Meets Europe’s Local Defences

The Maze: Temu leads four European markets and ranks second in eight more, yet strong incumbents still keep it lower elsewhere: the same challenger meets different local defences.

  • Finland, Croatia, Hungary and Slovenia put Temu first, while eight second places take its top-two footprint to twelve markets.

  • France ranks Temu second but Germany fourth, suggesting incumbent strength matters alongside market size.

  • These 2025 ranks show competitive positions, not market shares, profits or the effects of later tariff changes.

Why it matters: Retailers should investigate their local competitive gaps: Temu’s European reach is broad, but each market’s incumbents present a different obstacle.

6️⃣ Insight

Marketplace Share Keeps Climbing

The Maze: Marketplace share gained in nine of ten European markets, but retailers still hold the balancing share everywhere. The channel is gaining ground, not taking over.

  • Austria, Germany and Italy are near half of online consumer-goods sales value through marketplaces: 48.7%, 47.2% and 45.8%.

  • The UK and Belgium added 2.4 points each, reinforcing NIQ’s earlier finding that marketplace sales outpace traditional online sales.

  • France at 32.9% and Ireland at 32.8% prove that Europe is a planning region, not one channel playbook.

Why it matters: Marketplace access can add demand, but it can shift control of fees, ranking and customer data. Country economics decide whether the trade is worth it.

🚚 Fast delivery meets the physical store

  • Lowe’s launched a drone-delivery pilot at one North Carolina store with Wing aircraft and DoorDash ordering, testing whether small project supplies delivered in as fast as 20 minutes can justify an urgent-delivery lane.

  • JD.com set a September 28 opening for its first 101HOME store, a 12,000-square-metre home-shopping concept in Shanghai that pairs physical browsing with digital orders.

🔎 Discovery gets new measurements

🛡️ Marketplaces tighten their operating rules

  • Temu expanded product-safety training with eight testing and certification groups, including Bureau Veritas, QIMA and TÜV SÜD, as sellers face more compliance work; the announcement does not prove fewer violations.
