The Maze: eBay is widening access to Promoted Stores Custom, a paid ad format that lets a seller choose featured products and the Store page a shopper reaches after clicking. The September rollout is for eligible sellers with an active eBay Store subscription, beyond the earlier managed-seller pool. It does not give every eBay seller a campaign or every Store the right to host a live show. The useful change is control: a seller can promote a themed collection, sale, influencer-led page or eligible eBay Live destination instead of sending paid traffic to a generic Store entrance.

  • Wider access follows a limited start. eBay introduced Promoted Stores Custom in January, when its Seller Center page described it as available to eligible managed sellers. A September 29 rollout account says all eligible sellers with an active Store subscription can now create a Custom campaign in Seller Hub. That removes the earlier managed-seller condition as reported, while retaining eligibility and subscription requirements. eBay's older public product page still uses the managed-seller wording, so sellers should verify the Custom option in their own Advertising tab before planning a campaign. “All eligible” is not shorthand for universal access.

  • Sellers pick both an ad inventory pool and a destination. The eBay product description allows up to 1,000 listings in a campaign and up to ten featured items to show in the ad. The buyer may land on a sales event, curated collection, influencer-led page, Store page or eBay Live event page where that experience is available. The two choices serve different jobs: featured listings help earn a click, while the landing page must carry through the promised theme. eBay staff have said a curated collection is a prebuilt themed destination; an influencer-led page is broader than an Ambassador Affiliate Store and should not be assumed to mean the same product.

  • A Live destination is not a Live invitation. An eBay Live event page can be selected as a destination only when the seller or partner has access to that event experience. Earlier eBay staff clarification explicitly separated the page option from eligibility to host Live. That remains the right operational reading of the wider ad rollout. Sellers promoting a timed show need the event to exist, the link to work, and the campaign schedule to match it. Sending buyers to an unavailable or finished event turns a paid click into avoidable friction.

  • The paid click makes landing-page discipline more important. Promoted Stores Custom uses a cost-per-click model, so a visit can incur cost before a sale happens. A seller might use an attractive set of featured products to win attention while a destination shows a different collection. That can be legitimate when the page matches the ad's promise, but it can also disappoint the buyer. Track the whole path: ad creative and featured stock, destination relevance, inventory availability, click cost and resulting sales. A themed Store page can make a seller's brand more visible; its value should be assessed against incremental orders and margin, rather than Store visits alone. This is an opportunity to test paid navigation, not a reported return-on-ad-spend guarantee.

Why it matters: eBay is giving more eligible Store sellers a way to buy attention for a curated shopping experience, including events and creator-led pages. The commercial upside depends on the handoff after the click. Sellers should first confirm account access, then run one tight campaign whose featured products and destination tell the same story. Measure completed orders and profit after ad spend. A broader button in Seller Hub is useful only if the buyer reaches the right shelf.
