1️⃣ News

The Maze: DoorDash will pay $300 million for Grubhub Campus Dining and invest $125 million in Wonder, buying an institutional ordering rail, not all of Grubhub.
The pending deal spans 450-plus U.S. campuses where students can order by app or kiosk, pay with dining dollars and schedule pickup.
Campus integrations can connect eligibility, approved merchants, funds, receipts and reporting without extra restaurant hardware.
DoorDash plans to take the stack into hotels and stadiums; Wonder gets capital to expand its restaurants, robotics and food-production technology.
Why it matters: Consumer delivery wins the order. Institutional commerce controls the rules around it. DoorDash is buying the plumbing that can make venue demand stickier.
2️⃣ News

The Maze: eBay now fills vehicle-compatibility gaps on eligible UK parts listings, saving seller work while pulling more catalogue intelligence into its platform.
From 15 September, eligible UK sellers are enrolled automatically; eBay matches brand and Manufacturer Part Number data to compatible vehicles.
Added fitment can improve relevant search coverage and qualify listings for Assured Fit, but tyres and wheels are excluded.
Sellers can opt out only at account level, and eBay-added fitment is not returned through the GetItem API used by seller and third-party tools.
Why it matters: Better compatibility data can lift discovery and trust, but sellers must audit identifiers and returns because eBay controls the matching layer.
3️⃣ News

The Maze: Bol has opened Shophulp to every customer. The assistant turns ordinary-language shopping needs into comparisons and useful product lists inside bol.
Shophulp asks follow-up questions, weighs features, price and delivery, then leaves the final choice and checkout with the customer.
Sellers join automatically, but complete attributes matter more because products must fit a described situation, not merely match a keyword.
Existing Sponsored Products can enter the assistant without extra setup, although bol has disclosed no ad-ranking rules or conversion results.
Why it matters: Conversational discovery gives sellers another demand route, while bol gains more control over how catalog data becomes visibility and paid placement.
4️⃣ Insight

The Maze: US adults name marketplaces as their usual first-buy destination for a new brand more than twice as often as brand websites, making distribution an acquisition decision.
Marketplaces take 44% of responses versus 21% for brand websites, a 23 percentage point gap that covers the channel rather than Amazon alone.
Stores account for 17% and online retail websites for 10%, giving brands meaningful first-purchase routes beyond their own sites.
Social shopping’s 3% and AI platforms’ 1% describe purchase destinations, so they cannot measure discovery influence or prove buyers later migrate to direct orders.
Why it matters: Build a strong first-purchase presence where shoppers buy, then measure fees, profit and repeat orders before assuming marketplaces feed cheaper direct sales.
5️⃣ Insight

The Maze: Social commerce does not convert because a market has social apps. It converts when shoppers already trust people enough to buy through them.
China leads the source data with roughly 85% social influence, 80 scaled conversion, and 35% penetration; the USA trails at 38, 20, and 5.
The post frames the actual conversion gap as 12% versus 4%, which turns social commerce from a channel question into a trust question.
Strong-tie commerce research on Beidian and IM-based buying shows why existing relationships can reduce purchase risk before checkout even starts.
Why it matters: Copying China’s social-commerce playbook into low-influence markets is expensive. First build trust loops. Then add checkout.
6️⃣ Insight

The Maze: NP Digital's campaign sample says AI-referred visitors convert 8.3x higher, buy 62% faster, and generate 7x more revenue per visitor.
Traditional visitors converted at 0.72%; AI-referred visitors reached 5.97% in the June sample.
The time gap is just as telling: 8 days for traditional visitors versus 3 days for AI-referred visitors.
The caveat is intent: AI may be sending shoppers who already asked a sharper comparison question before clicking.
Why it matters: AEO should not be measured only by sessions. If assistants pre-qualify buyers, proof-rich product pages and clean data become conversion infrastructure.
