The Maze: Costco is now available through DoorDash across the United States. Members can shop more than 4,000 products from their local warehouse, link an active membership and order groceries, bulk essentials, electronics and seasonal goods for same-day delivery. The launch gives DoorDash a major missing basket in U.S. retail and Costco another national demand surface. Yet the important part sits between discovery and checkout: DoorDash brings the traffic and delivery network, while Costco keeps membership as the key that opens the cart.

  • DoorDash filled a conspicuous hole in its retail shelf. Costco had been one of the platform’s most-searched unavailable retailers. The nationwide launch covers all U.S. warehouses and extends a relationship already operating in five markets outside the continental U.S. The catalog spans groceries, pantry staples, household goods, Kirkland Signature products, electronics and seasonal merchandise. Restaurant delivery is frequent but narrow; a warehouse-club basket is larger, planned and can pull a consumer into several categories.

  • The membership wall stays in place. Shoppers open DoorDash, search Costco, select a local warehouse and build the basket. At checkout they link an active Costco membership. A nonmember is sent to Costco.com to join, then returns to DoorDash to connect the new account. DoorDash owns the marketplace session and last-mile workflow, but it does not turn Costco into an open storefront. Costco still decides who receives member access. The integration is therefore distribution without dilution: more places to find the warehouse, with the paid relationship intact.

  • For DoorDash, the real product is cross-category habit. Its second-quarter update showed why grocery selection carries more weight than another merchant badge. DashPass members placed about 75% of U.S. grocery and retail orders in Q2 2026. DoorDash also said order rates and basket sizes rise as customer cohorts adopt categories beyond restaurants. Costco adds a strong reason to open DoorDash for a weekly stock-up rather than only tonight’s dinner. If that behavior sticks, the platform gains frequency, higher order value and more reasons to keep consumers inside DashPass.

  • Costco is widening reach, not choosing one delivery winner. The club already has an Instacart-powered Same-Day channel, while Uber Eats expanded Costco delivery nationwide during the same week. Costco had 639 U.S. warehouses across 47 states and 81 million members worldwide at launch, providing a large base for several aggregators to compete over. That multi-homing keeps the retailer at the center. The platforms must win on price, availability, speed, subscriptions and service quality. Costco can capture incremental demand without making any one aggregator the sole front door.

Why it matters: Retailers do not have to choose between marketplace reach and customer control when identity is built into the transaction. Costco is using third-party apps as acquisition and convenience layers while its membership remains the commercial spine. DoorDash gets access to a valuable basket, but it still has to prove the economics: no source discloses Costco-specific fees, markups, order minimums, volumes or margins. The next contest is operational. Accurate catalogs, substitutions, delivery reliability and transparent pricing will determine whether a big warehouse basket becomes a recurring DoorDash habit or merely another icon in the app.
