Temu's AOV Nears $30, Older Shoppers Lead in Transactions ๐

Temu's average order value nears $30, with older shoppers leading in transactions. The 59+ age group placed the most orders in 2023, averaging 5.6 purchases.
๐ Older Shoppers Dominate Temu

Temuโs data shows that older consumers drive more purchases. In 2023, shoppers aged 59+ placed 5.6 orders on average, while those aged 18-26 placed only 2.6. The average order value (AOV) across all age groups hovered around $27-$28. This trend suggests that senior consumers are embracing online shopping more actively than younger buyers, who tend to make fewer transactions.
๐ AOV Differences by Country

Temu's AOV varies by region, with Germany and the U.S. leading at $41 per order. Canada follows at $38, while Australia hits $37. In contrast, Japan and Mexico see much lower AOVs at $24 and $23, respectively. This difference highlights how consumer spending power and shopping habits impact Temuโs revenue in different markets. Whatโs interesting even though Mexico has one of the lowest order values the pricing per item seems to be one of the highest
๐ท๏ธ Unbranded Goods Dominate

Temuโs catalog is 88% unbranded, with only 12% of products carrying a recognizable name. Unlike Shopee and Lazada, which feature official brand stores, Temu relies on a vast assortment of generic Chinese-made products. This model allows for aggressive pricing but may raise concerns about product authenticity and quality among buyers.

For the 12% of Temuโs products that are branded, pricing is a mixed bag. Items like gaming mice and memory cards are competitively priced, but high-end electronics often cost more than on Shopee or Lazada. For instance, the MSI RTX 4060 graphics card costs $487 on Temu, compared to $341 on Lazada and $306 on TikTok Shop. This suggests Temu is positioning premium tech at a markup while keeping everyday goods at steep discounts.
